Subject: Variety of colds and the ways of getting them.

People do get cold by frequently getting wet in rain or sometimes
even getting wet in rain only once. As a part of my experiments I
exposed myself for the last 3 years to continuously lashing rains of
the monsoons of Bombay. Many times I drove my two wheeler during these 3
years without rainy suit and cap. I used to get cold which was not
contagious ( non-viral ). Similarly my son used to get cold invariably
after diving in swimming pool which was also non contagious. The type
of cold wet get by continuous exposures to sun in summer and the type of
cold we get by inhaling auto emissions during a long journey and
exposures to so many other types of pollutants can cause colds which are
also not communicable. Highly allergic people ( and people with
vaso-motor problem )have their nose running almost everyday which is
also not communicable. Only the type of cold we get in winter is highly
contagious and all most all the people will suffer by this type of cold.
That is why people call it as common cold.

I will be sending details in my next despatch about an interesting
study of people traveling in the round the year over crowded Bombay
suburban trains with respect to the incidences of common cold in
different seasons.

( I apologise for using this misnomer COLD )

Kind regards.

( DV Sulapani )
