"Accident at Knockshinnoch Castle Colliery Ayrshire: Report On the
cause of, and the circumstances attending, the accident which occurred
at Knockshinnoch Castle Colliery, Ayrshire, on 7th September, 1950."
By Sir Andrew Bryan JP FRSE, HM Chief Inspector of Mines
Ministry of Fuel and Power Command Paper Cmd. 8180 (HMSO) March 1951
On another topic, does anyone have any details on the practice of
multiple shothole blasting in headings, prior to the availability of
Bickford fuse. The use of straws/quils filled with black powder, having
an uncertain burn rate, to ignite multiple holes in a narrow heading
would seem problemmatic.
