Dear Colleagues,
I am arranging a session at the upcoming meeting of the Canadian
Society for History and Philosophy of Science to be held at the University
of Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, June 3 to June 5, 1999. The
topic of the session is 'Scientific Discovery'. Sample questions to be
addressed include, "Are there definite criteria that determine when and by
whom discoveries are made?", "Is there a logic of discovery?', "Is the
notion of discovery a social construct?"
Those interested in participating in such a session should send an
abstract of a paper on this topic (by fax, e- or snail mail) to

The deadline for submissions is January 30, 1999. Abstracts
must be no longer than 350 words, single-spaced, and papers should be
no longer that 25 minutes (when delivered).
Final decisions regarding the session are made by the CSHPS
Program committee. Individuals will be notified of the Committee's
decision by March 1999. Note that presenters are expected to become
members of the Canadian Society for History and Philosophy of Science.
However, membership is not required in order to have your abstract
considered for presentation.
Graduate students, and individuals in other disciplines
(especially the natural and social sciences) are encouraged to
submit papers. More information about CSHPS can be found at

The CSHPS meeting is held in conjunction with the Congress of the Social

Please distribute this call to other lists, and apologies for
cross-postings.
