A message from Sean Varney:

This year, the BKSTS special effects conference SFX '98 is kicking off
with a special session of Giant Screen Special Effects at the Pepsi IMAX
Theatre, in the London Trocadero, at 9:00 a.m. on Friday 30th October.

An international group of presenters will showcase a wide range of
special effects made for the IMAX screen. The films, mostly in 3D,
represent the cutting edge of this exciting and demanding medium.

-------------------------------------------
Films to be shown (subject to last minute changes) will include:

John Weiley's rarely seen tour de force of 3D IMAX visual efects, the
20-minute film 'Imagine'.
A 3D film, 'Paint Misbehavin' from IMAX corporation, made using their
new computer aided 3D hand animation system.
Universal Studio's 'Back to the Future' ride.
Tom Huggins' experimental 8mm to IMAX blowup film 'Boar Pigs'.
Extracts from 'T-Rex - back to the Cretaceous' by IMAX corp.
Extracts from IMAX corp's 3D computer generated film 'Cyberworld'.
A stunning PSE Sound demonstratiom by D.A.V.E. (Toronto).
and more....

In addition there will be demonstrations of various special effects
techniques applied to the 15/70 format, including live action
compositing and 2D to 3D conversion methods.

The films and presentations will last around 2 hours.

This is the first time a session dedicated to special effects on the
Giant Screen has ever been presented. Although part of the BKSTS SFX
'98 Pinewood conference, extra seats are available at only stlg ten
pounds
from
BKSTS for this session alone. Contact Yasmeen Khan on 0171 242 8400, or

It promises to be an exciting morning.

It has just been announced that delegates attending the BKSTS Giant
Screen Spectacular are now also invited - at no extra cost - to a
special sneak preview of the not yet released 15/70 3D film 'Encounters
in the 3rd Dimension', to be shown immediately after the BKSTS event.

This dazzling 40 minute film is the creation of the Belgian company
nWave Pictures, makers of the highly successful 'Devil's Mine Ride' and
experts in large format CG ride films. It is an entertaining
exploration of 3D, featuring live action characters in entirely computer
generated settings. This will be the first screening of Encounters in
the 3rd Dimension in the UK and the film will be introduced by the
Director, Ben Stassen.

--------------------------------------------
The full session starts at 9:00 and will last approximately two hours.
'Encounters in the 3rd Dimension' starts at 12:00 and will finish at
12:40.
Attendance is optional - but highly recommended - for those who have
taken
part in the Giant Screen Spectacular.
