A Virtual Reality (VRML) model of the Avebury monument and ladscape
in Wiltshire, England, developed at the University of Newcastle in
collaboration with the University of Southampton and Leicester will
be featured in a Channel 4(UK) Documentary over the Holidays, and
will be featured at a latter date on the discovery channel.
The details are:
Stonehenge: secrets of the Stones Channel 4 on 29th & 30th
December at 9pm
A ten minute slot is devoted, in the second program ( and a brief
appearance in the first), to the methodologies employed and the
philosophies behind our deployment of VR in Archaeology. This is not
an attempt to create a glossy finished product for public viewing, we
are investigating ways in which VR can be created and used by
Archaeologists to "experience" sites as they may have been
experienced, and use this to refine their thoughts and subsequently
the model itself.
