for those concerned about other ecclesial communities commenting on RC
official statements, you're allowed to point out that the Apostolic See
regularly comments on everybody else's official statements and acts.
including the ordination of women to the presbyterate and episcopate, which
are labeled by Rome as acts creating furher impediments to Christian unity.
so, respect, yes, but, silence, not necessarily.
and I don't read any of the escalating statements as telling me what I have
to believe, "religious submission" just means keeping quiet. it doesn't
even forbid my pointing out when the arguments used to support a teaching
are flawed.
in RC history, high-energy statements that such and such cannot be changed
always preceed the new developments, and so have little force. it's the
equivalent of a parent saying "because I'm the mom, that's why."
