In January Steve Newport asked about survivals and revivals.
In the north wall of the medieval chancel of the Collegiate Church of St
Mary, Warwick, there is an Easter sepulchre which has been used within
living memory. The rector and wardens plan to revive its use this year,
though it isn't at all clear to me how far back the various strands of
what they have in mind will reach, and whether it will be relevant to
Steve.
Details are being worked out. They include the placing in it of flowers
on Maundy Thursday to be be taken out on Easter Day, the placing in it of
the consecrated elements as one of the final acts on Maunday Thursday, and
possibly the placing of in it of folded linen before Easter Day.
They would be happy to have comments and pointers. My link is as the
secretary of St Mary's Council, and as a reader of this list for the past
four years or so.
