other presides at the whole service. I prefer this as being more
consistent with the rubrics and with the liturgical tradition.
I believe that our rubrics would state that, normally, the presider is
also the preacher (and therefore gospeler). This order (as I outlined
previously, if presider is, as Thomas suggested, elsewhere) can be
awkward as many Lutheran churches place the confession and absolution as
a preparatory rite to the liturgy. When the sacrament is not offered,
the c and a is often omitted.
