Dividing the service into the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy
of the Table, each led by different people, is fairly common in some
parts of the Episcopal Church. Commonly there are two clergy, one a
woman or a deacon or sometimes an assistant new to ordained ministry, and
the other an "enlightened" male rector, and the notion being promoted is
common ministry.
Most folks know this is not so, and the rector is in charge, but
if he wants to try to fool himself people are gracious and let him.
Many of the people who do this have little knowledge of, or
respect for, liturgical or other tradition.
