Special Issue of the Journal of End User Computing on
Medical Informatics
Spring 2000
Guest Editors
Paul Divirgilio, University of Toronto and Tom Gough, University of Leeds
The Journal of End User Computing (JEUC) invites authors to submit papers
for a special issue on Medical Informatics.
The enormous growth in the use of communications and information technol=
ogy
in all aspects of healthcare provision from the use of computers to stor=
e
and access patient records through to computer-assisted medical procedure=
s
present healthcare professionals (and their clients) with a wide range of
opportunities and challenges in the delivery of healthcare.
Submissions for this special issue of JEUC are expected to focus on the
actual and potential impact on professionals and patients of the use of
computer-based systems in the delivery of healthcare. Contributions are
sought on the value of the information available, on the ease-of-use of t=
he
systems providing the information, on the changes, if any, in the
interrelationships between the various participants in the healthcare
delivery process, on the effects on the making of decisions, on any chang=
es
in the quality of the care provided. Lessons may be learned from success =
or
failure and contributions would be welcomed from any (or all!) of those
engaged in, or affected by, the design, development or operation of
computer-based information systems in the healthcare field. In the comple=
x
environment of medical informatics defining the 'end user(s)' could be a=
n
interesting issue perhaps?

* Hospital Information Systems
* Community Care Systems
* Clinical Information Systems
* Electronic Patient Records
