Dennis,
There has been a little lis-y2k discussion on the UCISA-y2k list, but
not nearly as much as I had hoped. Library and information centres
should be aware of and dealing with y2k issues. I hope that the lack of
discussion doesn't reflect a lack of activity in this area.
I was originally going to set up a lis-y2k list, however, during its
early stages I was contacted by the owner of the UCISA-y2k list. We
decided that it would be better to have a combined list for computing
services, MIS and library and information professionals' y2k
discussions, allowing information to be easily shared between these
closely-linked (and in many cases, converged) groups. Also, setting up
a separate list could have caused aggravation due to cross-postings,
people replying to the wrong list etc.
I advertised the fact that the UCISA-y2k list is hosting lis-y2k
discussions to several lis lists and hoped that library and information
professionals would join it. Indeed, there was an increase in the
number of UCISA-y2k members around that time.
I am interested to know approximately how many library and information
professionals there are on the UCISA-y2k list and people's opinions on
whether this list is an appropriate forum for lis-y2k discussions. If
people reply to me I will summarise their responses for the lists.
Regards
Anne Faulkner
