Almost all British universities participate in the British Library's
British Thesis Scheme - ie their doctoral theses are available through
ILL from BLDSC. This includes King's College London doctoral theses
which are input to the BL scheme by UL Senate House.
The BL's scheme exists specifically to provide a central point of
access to the UK's doctoral theses thereby eliminating the need for
individual university/college libraries to have to lend (or refuse to
lend) their copies.

Subject: Lending of Theses via I.L.L.

Dear all,
I am currently investigating the inter-library loan policies of
other higher education institutions with regard to lending of theses. At
the moment, my home institution does not lend at all, even with a BLDSC
voucher. I have discovered that some institutions do, however, provided
that the borrower takes full responsibility for the return of the item.
I would be very grateful if people could answer a few questions, and I
will of course post back results in due course. Perhaps even with
percentages, should I receive more than a few replies!
If you wouldn't mind answering some quick questions as to your policies,
please mail me personally at the address below with your e-mail address,
and I will mail you my questions.
Thanks!
