As far as this part of your question goes you might like to check
Edward Wilding, 'Computer evidence: a forensic investigations
handbook', Sweet & Maxwell, 1997. ISBN 0421579900.
It mentions the 1995 Civil Evidence Act which allows digital
documents to be admissable as evidence. It does stress however
that such documents are as open as any other to tampering and could be
challenged on that basis.
