LIBRARY ASSOCIATION INFORMATION SERVICES GROUP (SCOTLAND)
REFERENCE WORKS - ONE DAY COURSE
CENTRAL LIBRARY, THE WELLGATE, DUNDEE
THURSDAY 15 JANUARY 1999, 1000-1600
Are you in a large library, continually answering questions but with no time to
stop and really get to know your reference stock?
Are you in a small library, very little reference stock but with just as many
questions? Would you like to know which reference works will provide the most
answers?
"Can you find the answer to my question on the Internet?" Internet? What's that,
we don't even have a computer? So where do you find the answer to your customer's
questions in print?
This one day course hopes to make you more familiar with the reference sources
you will find in most large and small libraries. You will have hands on time with
many major printed sources. You will have time to get to know the reference books
you see on the shelf but never open. There will be a quiz to help you measure
the knowledge you have gained. Why not submit some questions in advance which
have stumped you recently and we will see if we can find the answer.
The course will be especially useful for library assistants and librarians in
their first job.
Cost including lunch and refreshments 50 pounds.
Dundee Central Library is located in the city centre, ten minutes walk from the
train station.
