Colleagues,
Just a quick note about an article of interest in this week's Economist. A
poll commissioned by the American Library Association contained the
following key findings:
- 64% of Americans visit a library at least once a year, 10% visit a
library 25 times or more a year
- 66% of Americans have library cards, individuals earning over $60K are
the most likely to have a card
- 20% users visit the library to surf the Internet
- 81% visit to take out books
- Almost 90% consider libraries as valuable or more valuable than other
tax- supported services
- 90% of Americans expect libraries to exist in the future - along with books
Encouraging stuff!
