** Apologies for cross posting **
** This is intended for legal librarians / information workers,
apologies to those for whom this is irrelevant **
My name is Rebecca Rees and I am currently working on my dissertation
in order to complete my MA in Librarianship at the University of
Sheffield. The title of my dissertation is: "The information needs
of lawyers: With regard to the rapidly changing environment of
multimedia law". I am mailing to see if anyone would be interested
in completing the below questionnaire about their experience, or non
experience, of this subject.
The aim of my dissertation is to determine what legal issues of
multimedia are arising in law firms, if any. I am also trying to establish
the sources that are used to answer enquiries about this topic.
If you are able to complete this questionnaire I can assure you that
anything you say will be kept strictly confidential. Excerpts may
be made part of the final research report, but under no circumstances
will your name, or other identifying characteristics, be included. I
am willing to summarise my findings for those who are interested.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you would like any
more information before deciding to complete this, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Rees
1. Does your firm deal with legal issues relating to multimedia?
2. Is it planning on increasing the amount of work it does in this
area?
3. How large is the department that would deal with this area?
4. How long have you worked in a legal environment?
Would it be possible for you to give me your job title?
5. How much of the library's daily work involves answering enquiries
about issues of multimedia and the law?
6. If required to, how does the library's information dissemination
service keep lawyers up to date with changes in the law involving
multimedia?
(What sources are used to get this information and how regular are
these services?)
7. Could you tell me the general nature of the questions the library is asked,
if any, about the legal issues of multimedia?
What sources would be used to answer them?.
8. What is your personal opinion about the availability of literature
on multimedia and the law?
What about the quality of it?
9. Who has access to the Internet within your firm?
Do you have an Intranet?
Do you have a website?
10. What is your personal opinion about the Internet as a research
tool?
How important is it to your daily work?
Are there any aspects of it / sites you use regularly?
Is it used to answer questions on multimedia?
11. What is your opinion about the legal professions use of new
technology such as the Internet?
Could you please let me know which discussion list you received this
from?
Could you please indicate whether you would like a summary of my
findings?
Thank you for taking the time to fill this out, it is very much
appreciated.
Regards,
Rebecca Rees
