We have a non-domestic multiple access viewing agreement with Sky
Subscriber
Management Centre. They are about to increase our rate which, for the
use we
make of the service, is really quite expensive. It seems the channels we
use
most frequently are freely available anyway - Astra channels.
When this type of agreement was brought in in December 1995, I
complained
about the rate and Sky offered us a concessionary rate as a university.
Sky
tell me that ours is still a concessionary rate. In that case I wonder
what
the commercial rate is as ours is about to treble in the 2.5 years that
we've
had such an agreement.
I asked what the current rates for commercial organisations are and
wasn't
given an answer. There are two other departments in our university who
have a
similar agreement with Sky so we're paying a lot of money.
If any of your institutions have a subscription with Sky, I'd be very
grateful to hear what your experiences have been, or if you could
forward
this message to the appropriate staff.
Many thanks for your time.
