A little while ago someone posted an enquiry to the list regarding the
origin of a quotation along the lines of trying to choose a birthday present
for someone and rejecting the idea of a book as the recipient 'already had a
book'.
I never saw anyone identify it at the time, however Lucinda Lampton referred
to it on television the other night as being a 19th century Punch cartoon.
