Dear colleagues,
Do any of you impose minor penalties for minor infringements of your
Library rules?
We're trying to tighten up on our "No food, drink, smoking, use of mobile
phones" rules; while the question of *whether* to allow food and drink has
been well aired in this forum, that of penalties for the culprits (in the
less lenient institutions!) hasn't.
Obviously, we can't go to the draconian lengths of suspending students who
bring a bottle of water into the library, but merely confiscating the
offending item isn't proving an effective deterrent. Have any other
libraries imposed, or considered, other penalties such as on-the-spot fines?
Usual policies of replies-to-me and will-summarise-for-the-list apply!
Many thanks,
Judith
