HERON Project
The University of Stirling, in partnership with Napier and South Bank
Universities, Blackwell's Information Services and Blackwell Retail Ltd,
has received a major grant to develop a national database and resource
bank which will widen access to course materials and improve the quality
of learning throughout higher education in the UK.
The development phase of the project, which is in the Electronic
Libraries programme, will start in August 1998 and the objective is to
make the service self-financing by the end of year 3.
We wish to fill the following posts at the University of Stirling by 3
August or as soon as possible thereafter, for one year in the first

MARKETING OFFICER Full-time
The Marketing Officer will be responsible for identifying the needs of
potential subscribers to the HERON service, particularly of academic
staff and librarians, and for evaluating its success in meeting those
requirements. Vigorous promotion of the service within HEIs will be a
major responsibility and will be developed in co-operation with
Blackwell's.
You must have excellent communication and presentation skills, and be a
good team player, able to work flexibly in support of project goals.
Experience in user surveys and good IT skills are necessary; web
authoring ability is desirable. Working experience in higher education
would be an advantage.
Salary will be on the scale ALC 1/2 (£15,159 - £22,785).
PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR Part-time
The Project Co-ordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day running
of the parts of the project being undertaken by the university partners,
including the work of the Copyright and Marketing Officers, the
Technical Manager and the HE Texts Liaison Officer. The Co-ordinator
will be responsible for all documentation and reports and monitoring of
the budget on the HE side. Close collaboration with the Blackwell's
Co-ordinator will be essential.
You must have strong organisational and communication skills and be an
excellent teamworker. Project management is important and business
experience would be an advantage.
The post is 0.6 of a full-time post, and there is scope for flexibility
over hours. Salary will be on ALC scale 2/3, up to £25,000 pro rata.
