I think what is most irritating is the feeling that people have not done
any research on their own before asking basic questions, especially
when it comes to requesting help in dealing with reader enquiries. If
people have already exhausted traditional sources, they should say so,
or perhaps have not bothered to look but depend on asking someone
else.
As you say, one's own library is the first place to look,
