We are undertaking an audit of current equipment for disabled users
and hoping to draw up a wants list.
I'd be interested in hearing what other libraries have thought worth
buying, particularly for dyslexics, which make up 95% of our
registered disabled users.
We already have the following:-
Pentium pcs and Apple Mac, with priority access, on height-adjustable
tables, some with large-screen and text-enhancement software
Large-screen video with teletext and sub-title facility
Open Book Scanner
Induction loops
Our access to sites is satisfactory, with ramps, disabled loos,
colour contrast in paintwork and floor-coverings, disabled lift;
OPACS,telephones and photocopiers are suitable for wheelchair users,
although some older pieces of equipment are still too high.
Any help would be much appreciated.
