For attention of IRSG members
-----------------------------
Dear Member
IRSG98 in Grenoble was a great success but one of the unexpected down sides
of the meeting being in France was that we could not have a committee
meeting nor AGM.
I am hosting a workshop on HCI&IR on Friday
(http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/irhci/), the committee has agreed that the best
thing to keep us legitimate this year is to host some form of AGM at that
meeting. This is not really suitable but is a form of holding position
until we can have a proper AGM at Easter with IRSG99 (which is in the UK -
at Strathclyde Uni).
The main duty of the AGM is a financial report and election of committee. I
propose the current committee to continue until Easter but would be very
willing to accept nomininations for new members (either next Friday in
person or by e-mail). I will also except nominations throughout the year
and put them to the committee by e-mail - again as a stand in until we have
a proper AGM at Easter. I also propose to make our financial statement
available by e-mail to me.
The psuedo-AGM for this year will take place in Computing Science at the
University of Glasgow at 1700 on Friday 11 Sept. See HCI&IR pages for
travel details.
This isn't really satisfactory and if we host IRSG outside the UK again we
will have to put a more concrete plan into action before the event. There
will be a committee meeting on Thursday evening if you wish any proposals
to be discussed they can be discussed there as well.
Mark
