The tragedy was that the backup disk was also destroyed in the process!
That was due to a stupid mistake that took one click to format the
wrong drive!
Fortuantely, I had the lot on the notebook, albeit slightly older
version.
The pain of reinstalling all the applications, settings and copying the
data from the notebook.
I am pleased to say that I am back, alive and kicking and that the
covers are back on the computer case.

My backup file was around 1.2Gb. I wouldn't bother with Outlook. Here
is what I do:
Main disk is 8+ Gb, partitoned into 3 primary partitions (4,2,2).
Slave drive of 2.1Gb
Full backup of the main partition goes to one of the other partitions.
The remaining partition is a playground.
Once a week or so, entire disk is mirrored to the slave drive using
PowerQuest's 'DriveCopy'. A truly amazing product.
Slave drive costs less than a ton and DriveCopy is, oh, a fifth of
that?
All this, of course, is not stupidity proof like in my case, but should
work.
