Hmmm, I'm not sure this is right. I think most doctors feel free
to discuss their patients with other doctors. Part of being in
a "porfession", I suppose, although the term "profession" has been
serially diluted in recent years by everyone calling themslelves
"professional". Maybe we should buck the trend and start calling
medicine a "trade".
Anyway, there are very, very few patients I've ever dealt with
(maybe other doctors???) who I would not feel happy to discuss
with other doctors.
I wouldn't necessarily see that much difference between a closed
mailing list and a chat after the postgrad meeting, or a telephone
chat with the relevant consultant.
I also would have thought that benefits of being able to discuss
a clinical problem with a *group* of other GPs on a mailing list
outweigh any disadvantage the patient might feel (which I can't
see myself).
OTOH, I'd prefer to disguise clinical problems in order to get the
input from he non-doctor members of GP-UK, whose opinions are nearly
always helpful.
