If you don't know you don't need to send a file with one in<g>
Macro: a series of commands or keystrokes such as could be typed in
at the command line (or similar interface) which has been recorded
and can be played back to automate a task or tasks.
For instance, when Word starts up on my machines, it looks to see
which machine it is on, then moves its window to the left margin,
increases the height of the window to the full height of the screen
(in 800*600 or 1200*lots screens) and its width to the equivalent
width of our standard documents.
If I am using it it sets itself to standard view, if one othr
individual is using it it sets itself to page preview.
>2. If what is really essential?
It isn't essential, when it becomes so you will know.
Meanwhile, don't send word files saved as .doc
>3. _What_ should you arrange with your recipient?
Nothing, yet. If you are trying to send a form (eg a grant
application or research proposal which contains error checks for the
bits to fill in.... mind you, Java was invented for that)

Don't let it save as Word files.

Using Word 97 untramelled<g>
Grace, you are now educated far beyond most HA droids on the dangers
of Word files, the problems of sending them as attachments, the
nature, use and undesirability of transmission of macro-containing
files. Revel in it while taking care to tramel Word.
