Oh dear.
How are the colleagues to find out what the general (spread of)
opiniion is without asking, and being told.
If asked publicly, then reply publicly.
Your posting could be read as suggesting that the proper thing to do
is to dissemble so as to avoid ones views being applied later...
in order to protect current practice from criticism.
