FOUR YEARS AGO, women made up only 3 percent of U.S. Internet users,
according to Georgia Tech University, which surveys Internet users
twice a year. Estimates now put women at 40 percent or more of the
U.S. online population, and America Online reports that more than half
of its 14 million subscribers are women. Observers suggest that the
growing number of women online reflects the developing mainstream
appeal of the Internet. "Yes, women are interested in everything men
are interested in," says women.com founder Ellen Pack. "It's not that
women need special treatment--it's that they deserve a highly targeted
tool." So does everyone, Pack added. "We think 'men.com' would be a
great idea..."
