Not really.
Corrective medicine (looking after ill people who want to be well) and
preventive medicine (keeping well people well) are both required.
However, the balance is not always 50/50. Both sets attract different
personality of physician.
Those more interested in corrective medicine tend to be hospital
practitioners. Those more interested in prevention tend to be GPs.
There is overlap. Both sets of personalities experience frustration
when the balance is skewed one way or the other.
Perhaps that is why I was happier as a gynaecologist!
