Hi All
Reading Ahmad's posting tonight or rather last night re dark matter in the
head reminded me of an odd train of thought I had whilst waiting at some
traffic lights today. A bus went by and I noticed a large banner with
something like "Atishooo! You've got the 'flu. Get plenty of rest and
fluids. Antibiotics don't work" Not sure if this is a purely local thing or
whether it's seen across the country but it reminded me of the thread about
antibiotics with all the differing views expressed. Sad or wot? That
reminded me of yet another thread concerning home visits and most recently
the posting from Austria. That led onto thoughts of foreign places, summer
holidays, etc. and then ........... wait a mo' ..... in some countries one
can buy antibiotics OTC!
Now, I wonder if GPs from such places have the same "demands" for
antibiotics placed upon them as we do or if those demands are just aimed
further down the generation tree of whatever is purchasable, e.g. "This
Ampicillin is no good so I want a prescription for Co-Amoxiclav or else" How
have the Health Authorities in those countries justified making antibiotics
OTC and could a case be made for a similar arrangement here? Cries of
resistant bugs in no time no doubt but IS it a problem abroad? Do these GPs
not prescribe, say PenV or Tetracycline or whatever because everyone's had
it already?
And what do those Germans use to treat Essential Hypotension :-)
Then the lights went green and ......oh well, never mind :-(
Regards
Peter
