The problem with the sale of goodwill is that it is so open to abuse and
exploitation.
I was offered a job in Jersey where the sale of goodwill is legal. £180,000
smackeroonies, no assets no nothing, just £180K to the outgoing partner to
take over his place. (and that in 1991!)
Admittedly they were on 90K with 10% tax but even so, I still would have
had to buy into the practice and then find somewhere to live.
The crazy thing about it, from a Group Practice point of view, is that the
outgoing partner, who has the least interest in the future success of a
happy partnership, is going to take the wo/man with the money, even if
he/she is a complete and utter toss-pot. Strangely, they didn't seem to
see my point.:-(((( No doubt looking forward to their own *lump sum*)
