Mike,
Your name was passed to me as having been involved in an
evaluation (at Maldon & S Chelmsford PCG) looking into the cost
of linking all their practices to the internet. I gather that the
final figure was circa £800 (for practices without the hardware)
plus £7 per month.
I presume this set up was for a stand alone PC without connection
to a clinical system. Did the £800 figure just cover the
hardware? What about installation costs (extra phone lines etc)
and training? Do you know if and where I can see the details, or
can you point me in the direction of any other similar cost
assessments?
In trying to find you I visited Equip, http://www.equip.ac.uk -
vary natty! I was impressed, not just with the scope for
dissemination of local guidelines, CME, audit etc., but with the
potential for PCGs. Do you have a forum at the same site through
which your PCGs can communicate?
How long did this site take to set up and what were your
resources? Do you know what proportion of your local GPs use this
website? Perhaps, time permitting you could mail me privately
about this.
In central London we are clearly quite a long way behind many
HAs, but very keen to catch up and rather than be reinventing the
wheel, I am very grateful to anyone on the list for advice or
pointers.
Thanks.
Dr Laurie Slater
