Can you please help me with the following problems I encountered in my
working week?(BTW I think we should apply for PGEA for time spent on GP UK
-
after all we cover all topics and do reflect on our practice and change our
practice as a result of our contact...)
1. does anyone know what 'ectatic' and enthesitis mean? Letters from
different consultants about different patients.
2. I saw a patient about 2 yrs ago c/o of his testicles feeling heavy. O/E
they were rather large but the L seemed to have an irreg. hard mass where
the epididymis should be. U/S revealed a similar lesion and urgent
exploration recommended. Referred to surgeon -explored. At surgery the
gonad looked suspicious, with a nasty irregular dark hard mass at the upper
pole. Radical orchidectomy performed, CT scan and chemo planned.
Histology
inflammatory. Patient told must have damaged during sport earlier in his
life. Patient had prosthesis put in. Since then has had failed
relationships because he can't face anyone getting near his tackle. Went
to
see lawyer. Told it will cost him at least ?3000:00 for the legal action
and
the most he might get is ?12,000.00 He just wants to know whether there
were any blood tests that could have been done to confirm he had a
malignant
tumour, could they have have done a biopsy (his words - tested a bit) or in
any way avoided an orchidectomy.
Apart from being cross that his Lawyer sent him to me for an opinion, I
really don't think suing will get him the answers he wants/needs to get on
with the rest of his life. What do you, my learned friends think?
