Iain,
GP-UK is a public e-mail list for doctors .Some GPs may welcome the use of a
resource such as orthogate. Many of the problems I get in my surgical
practice is from late referral of orthopaedic problems by general
practitioners. You say GP-UK facilitates discussion on new ideas, research,
workshops, seminars, conferences, grants, education, software development
etc for the UK General Practice (Family Medicine) community. Non-UK views
are also welcome. GP-UK intends to promote collaborative work, problem
solving and support. Surely this includes orthopaedics
Looking at GP-UK I wonder how most people cope with the 2000 messages per
month. It looks as if a proportion of your members use it as a chat room.
The message threads are virtually impossible to follow. On the orthopod
(mailbase) http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/orthopod list we broke the list
down into sub-speciality areas to cope with information overload. We found
that we began to loose members as the list volume went over 400 messages per
month. Also on the orthopod list over 50% of the message threads contain at
least one academic reference. I really wonder how some of your members find
time to send over 100 messages per month to the list. I do not regard that I
have spammed your list. This is useful medical information that you are
being send. I would hesitate if it was commercial or a timeshare etc
I hope this information is useful. We all work for the same government in
the UK.
