Mothers of invention
The first programmers -- the ones who programmed ENIAC while
World War II still raged -- were six female mathematicians
hired from a group calculating ballistics trajectories for
the U.S. Army. They could be bitter about being left out of
IT history books, but for the most part they aren't, writes
Kathleen Melymuka in Ms. MIS. They still take pride in their
role as groundbreakers.
