No - but - if a patient's BP is not adequately controlled on 50mg of Atenolol
and the resting pulse rate is above 60, I sometimes get an increased
antihypertensive effect by trying 100mg. However, if the resting pulse is
below 60 on 50mg, ie. the patient is already well beta blocked, then
increasing the dose to 100mg probably won't have an additional
antihypertensive effect.
All of which may not be scientifically validated but seems to work for me :-).
The same principal seems to work for angina too.
