I have now remembered my PGP pas phrase here is the message I sent encrypted in error

I have been involved in RFA on and off since version 1.
I admit it that's why I was on Clapham common. Who needs sex and drugs when you can have RFA.
RFA has been a bit of a Joke. It has been used to:
Change GP terms of service by the back door (e.g. times on night visit claim forms)
Impose "Standards" that we all no are going nowhere (e.g. X.400)
Impose best practice that working GPs know is not quite so easy in the real world (e.g. the script re authorising stuff)
Create endless wish lists which might be nice but which no-one can afford.
HOWEVER, there is a new team on the job. Who are trying to do a better job. Lets give them a chance:
Chairman of the RFA Steering Group is Dr Ian Purves. Ex GP, Ex Chairman of EMIS user Group, now of SCHIN, Chairman of JCG and one of the creators of this list. [log in to unmask] The official at IMC looking after the process is Dr Punna Athwal [log in to unmask] (now he wouldn't have a email address like that if he didn't want to listen). I also sit on the steering committee.
There are also a number of sub groups. I for my sins will chair the new QA and co-ordination group (I think that makes me a poacher turned gamekeeper)
There is a prescribing group, a general issues group, an EDI group and security and confidentiality all groups have supplier representation and professional representation. I haven't got the names in front of me but they include a lot of sensible people like Jon Rogers [log in to unmask] Alan Hassey, [log in to unmask] Leo Fogarty [log in to unmask] and John Williams [log in to unmask]
If there are things in the RFA you don't like tell me and tell me why
and I'll ensure your views are part of the QA process. If you want to
add tell me about those to. Items should be
Either
1)	fundamental to the successful implementation of the strategy
2)	safety critical (this include security and confidentiality)
3)	Necessary to support data sharing and EDI

The RFA is not the place for wish list items and there should be a business case to support the inclusion of items.
A major consultation process is already underway which is approach
Health Authorities computer facilitators, professional representatives
bodies, stake holders in NHS Executive and User Groups. Two workshops
are planned to get greater input and feedback on early drafts

Applause for the estimable Jon, this is the level of disclosure that the NHS should achieve as a start.
Jon, who are the RFA5 members responsible for whatver bit of RFA deals with portability of records, IE the ability to take the GP notes of John Smith99 and move them from your practice to mine? I really do want to see their names in public.

I stand as ever prepared to serve my country. It is I suppose possible that nobody in NHSE/IMG/MIG has noticed that i am interested in medical informatics, indeed I would not be surprised in the least if representatives of the former two orgs gave that as an excuse, it might even be confirmed to have apparent correspondence with objective reality.

I mean, that would be fascinating...
