Ideally a low dose of one drug is best but in hypertension this is often
inadequate. As far as bendro. is concerned we are advised that to reduce side-
effects we should only use 2.5 mg and higher doses are said to be no more
effective. Atenolol is often not tolerated in full dosage and is completely
out for asthmatics and PVD patients. The latest advice from our cardiologist
is now to be much more aggressive at hitting lower targets for BP, even in the
very elderly with high systolics, and never to stop drugs for hypertension
that aren't fully effective, unless they're causing a problem, but just add in
more! Low cardiovascular spend is likely to attract criticism - and probably
rightly so.
