I have no doubt that the Read coding system is a perfectly wonderful
system for some. I have no doubt that Dr Read is a very clever man in
the eyes of some more. I have no problems with either.
HOWEVER, what I really can't take is this:
- "You shall drive on the left-hand side of the road"
(OK, no problem, says little me)
- "Not only that, but you shall drive a Ford Escort, 'The Party' has
adopted it as the 'National Standard"
(hmm.. well, the Escort goes from A2B I suppose, says still-little-me,
not wanting to spoil it for everyone by saying: "I'd really like an
Alfa or a BMW", perhaps I am wrong, everybody else seems to be happy
with the Escort....)
- "The Escort must have 4 seats"
(OK, useful for all that stuff I see every day, says still-little-me)
- "Forgot to tell you that you'll have to buy few wheel caps every 3
months"
(wha'? but I don't need more than 200 or so wheel caps!)
- "One more thing, the Escort Mark III is reserved for Party officials"
(who am I to argue with 'The Party'?)
- "Oh, the Escort has to be in magenta"
Sod this, I'd rather be dead than be seen in a magenta Escort ;-)
