The new IM&T Strategy makes a point of criticising HAs and other
orgs which have a finance director in charge of IT [1]
Who is aware of their HA responding to this by reconfiguring itself,
or even talking about reconfiguring itself?
I would like a straw poll of HAs with Finance and IT directors,
versus those with IT directors not under finance.
HA ................
Finance over IT........IT independent .......
X or delete as appropriate, answer to me and I will summarise to the
list.

[1] Supporting the clinical improvement agenda
6.57 In many NHS organisations the "Information Department" continues
to be regarded principally
as the producer of information to support local financial management
and ensure compliance with
national (bottom line) information requirements (CMDS, Koerner, HRGs
etc). The fact that local NHS
information departments have their centre of gravity in the
management community is often reinforced
visibly by their formal accountability to Finance Directors.
6.58 It is of course a matter for individual NHS organisations to
determine where formal management
and Board level responsibility for information services is best
placed. At the very least Boards and
Authorities should put a formal arrangement in place that ensures the
priorities of the local health
information services are fully and effectively influenced by the
wider clinical community and support
the core clinical and health improvement agenda of the NHS.
