Well, "needs"?
There may well have been decisions taken, but they were all long
enough ago that they are garanteed time-expired, as are most NHS
IM&T decisions. Alas. Perhaps if the NHS used IT in their IM&T
they might catch up, but probably not.
But back to X400. Is this needed? Doesn't seem so, even if it has
been decided that it was to be the bees articulations, it is now
accepted that SMTP will do for our purposes.
But I am sure the NHS wants to spend the money allocated, so have it
if it is free.
NT? There are at least three other operating systems capable of
providing the security features, and two of them are cheaper than
NT. Linux, Netware 5, I suspect OS/2 Aurora is not in the running,
but Warp server 3/4 is.
However, despite the manifest advantages of Lotus Notes it looks as
if there is no chance to swap Excahnge for something else, so if it
is free have it.
