Hi
We went from GPASS 18 months ago to Vision. Essentially from a very cheap,
not even FP10 (the way we were using it) to Vision 1.15. We had health
promotion data, cytology data and repeat prescribing stuff on two separate
machines using the old GPASS, thus non standard database with bolt on
modules. Overall the data conversion was OK, although our HP dta,
particularly with smoking and drinking information, did not come across very
well and all our 20 a day smokers suddenly improved their chances by only
smoking 5 cpd. As most of the data we had gathered was bo**ocks anyway,
this was not so important.
Agreee completely with Laurie that having a month or so to play about with
the system would have helped immensely in deciding how to enter atuff and
where and by whom...we could have avoided some mistakes.
Only thing I would add is that you MUST develop your Read Formulary. Tom
Davies has a lot to say on this subject ([log in to unmask]). If
you don't it becomes disheartening trying to get your Read codes to work.
Use prefixes and suffixes in the keywords and slowly build it up. e.g. Use
the prefix "np" for all your malignancies..neoplastic growth. Then you can
have a keyword "nplung" which gets you the code for Bronchial Carcinoma, and
so on.
Get Keyboard Express (http://www.keyboardexpress.com/index.htm) and use the
hot keys to give folk easy ways to add data, BPs, alcohol etc. Use it to
bring up guidelines quickly.
Get lots of other people's guidlines. We have some, Tom has LOTS and most
Vision users I am sure will be happy to share them.
Use priorities
1&2 Important illness
3 Bog standard stuff
4 Admin
5 Maternity
7 Distric Nurse Codes
and so on.. Be consistent.
Good luck
