Hmmm. wrong on both counts, Ahmad . 16 bit apps run just fine under NT - they
create a virtual Win 16 environment for themselves.
The real reason for 16 bit is I suspect that when they started development it
was difficult for them to assess the take up of 32 bit stuff or that a
significant number of users wanted to use lower spec machines. Remember that
until very recently when hardware costs took a real nose dive, the cost of
upgrading to 32 bit machines (processor and RAM costs) was not insignificant.
No developer in his/her right mind would stick with 16 bit unless for good (at
the time) reasons. 32 bit development is cheaper because of more
productive development environments and less flaky end user sites.
Remember they know that they will have to convert to 32 bit before long anyway.
I have no connection with VAMP even as a user but having made the decision to
develop a 16-bit Windows of our accounts package I do understand the difficult
decision that they faced.
