Sorry but I did not know about mailbase hosting us on sufferance. The
sterility of compuserve has more or less killed the doctors' forum over
there and once I discovered GP-UK I did not want to go back--to compuserve.
To my mind this list has more life, more humour, considerably more
intellectual content (witness recent threads on stuff like chaos theory)
and much more relevance to life in GP.
So far I know (via Andrew) of one complaint and one departure because of
sexual innuendo and SAOLs. I know (via me) of at least three people unhappy
with general advice to tone down sexual innuendo and SAOLs. As I already
said, I have not seen anything that would come anywhere near offending *me*
but would be the first to accept that many people are much more easily
offended than I am.
In a world of adults, democracy and list content regulated by majority
opinion (the one I *thought* we had here in my last posting on this topic)
such advisory messages should not be necessary. If we have to keep mailbase
happy then that is a different scenario altogether. If we have to be
"academic" in most of our postings then I worry that this list will become
rather sterile.
Can we have a statement from the listowners on the precise nature of the
perceived problem recently on the list?
Is it someone complaining about specific comments? Perhaps directed at
them?
Is it mailbase complaining?
If there are specific complaints then I do feel that those deemed
responsible should be allowed a chance to defend themselves.
