My apologies to the group if I have upset anyone with the choice
of subject title "PCG IT Virgins". No offence was intended and I
did think that the content of the posting was well within this
group's remit. I will continue the thread in moderated mode and I
shall endeavour, as is clearly expected of a true IT / healthcare
professional to take my PCG porridge without a sprinkling of
sugar. (Does the group have an issue with food analogies? ....No,
don't answer that!).
On a serious note, I do accept your points Andrew. I may not be a
prolific contributor, but I read the postings regularly and over
a number of years have found this group stimulating, helpful and
supportive. I suspect there are many others of my ilk. GP-UK
undoubtedly meets some of my professional and information needs.
But I am particularly intrigued and drawn to the human element
and the rich balance between staid conservatism and "in yer face"
radical anarchy - which I find a very healthy mixture. You are
doing a great (and probably thankless) job in keeping this public
forum going and I am sure the groups interests are being well
served by your guidance towards moderation, acceptance and open
mindedness (my spell checker wants minuends!) Censorship could be
so dangerous.

OK guys and gals.
We have had at least one person complain and leave the list
specifically
because of the very problem to which we are drawing your
attention. As
Declan has good cause to know, the world is not made a happier
place by
failing to respect everyone's point of view.
When it comes down to it, we are only hosted by mailbase on
sufferance, and
it would be a shame to have to decamp and reorganise with another
(inevitably less efficient) list server. Mailbase are extremely
active at
blocking the spam everyone whinges so much about, so lets play
the game,
huh?
A bit of backchat is fine - but we have had a few threads which
have been
dominated by innuendo. We managed for years without this kind of
problem
reaching the level it did recently, and anyone wants to let off
steam they
can of course, always join one of the many branches of the
alt.sex heirarchy
on usenet.
