I tried it once, serial to serial, and couldn't make it work. I think I
needed to use a crossed over serial cable "null modem" and due to time
constraints I resorted to doing a sneaker net shuffle rather than
getting out the soldering iron or temporarily installing a network card.
IRDA should really be the answer I think, allowing any two computers in
the same room to talk albeit slowly to each other without any plugging
and playing about.
THat machine returns to the fold at the end of term, and I will work
out a solution, probably drop a network card into it in fact, and then
give it a hardware profile for term time that leaves the NIC out until
tht hall gets Ethernet installed.
Apropos of which, surely if NHS Net were to be of any use, all medical
students should be connected to it nearly at teh outset, and not just
at college either...
