Dear GP-UKers,
I suspect that NZ general practice is a lot more similar to UK general
practice than that practiced in Holland, or Germany, or France.
For example, what about the poor availability of simple "OTC" remedies such
as aspirin or paracetamol in Germany. A doctors visit seems to be required
(correct me if I'm wrong). I heard from a NZ/German family, over here
visiting Whanau (family), that Parkamed is used much more than antibiotic
in the early treatment of otitis media, and the mother, had been impressed
by it's efficacy over the years.
Now I realise that the evidence for antibiotics having any influence over
the course of OM is poor (reduces duration of pain maybe, but this is all
the sleep deprive parents want). Any of our continental colleagues have
any experience of this wonderdrug / snake-oil / harmless placebo?
