Fine - but you have to be willing to pay for it - no-one else will. It's
all
very well saying "I ask for a crock of gold" without bothering to look for
the
end of the rainbow>>
Well the way I see it is that currently the NHS suffers from loss of
doctors in their prime. The working conditions in many parts of the NHS are
still pretty animal and there are such things as duty of care, negligence
etc. In our local trust there is quite a decent OHS service for the staff.
Consultants can use it if they want to, at no cost. Consultants earn more
than us---why then should GPs have to pay for something which is provided
free at point of delivery to hospital colleagues? I advocate a OHS for GPs
especially (and in all areas for all staff) as legally necessary to ensure
that employers/boards/whatever are fulfilling their duty of care, as a
good investment and as helping recruitment.
Ultimately I suppose we all vote with our feet. I find the conditions
under which I am expected to work as a NHS GP here unacceptable so I am
leaving to do other things. I expect to have a better quality of life and
to be no worse off financially. Maybe even better off--as an entrepreneur
friend said once, "You can be too busy earning your living to make any real
money."
So I am not willing to pay for it, not directly anyway.
