Very upset lady rang me , late Friday, "why won't you sign my payment
exemption certificate?"
She had ticked the box relating to being unable to leave the house without
assistance from someone else. Every time I have seen her she has walked in
to my upstairs consulting room with no assistance from any one, not even a
walking stick.
I explained this. Not impressed as she claims those are the "good days" when
she comes to see me, then threatened to ask for home visits every bad day.
(I wouldn't go needless to say).
Her old GP in Scotland always signed her exemption says she.
Eventually as a precedent had been set I agreed to sign her form, but feel I
should have suggested she looked for a different GP as we had obviously deep
seated differences in attitudes.
First, is there anyone who adjudicates on the decision re exemption from
payment for scripts?
Second, what would you have done?
BTW her diagnosis is painful knees, no cause or clinical signs found after
extensive investigation.
