OK, so maybe we need to separate occupational (ill) health from general
health - or is that possible when you're talking about general practice?
The ideal would be to access all health care from the same point.
I suspect many of us bypass the GP at times - touch of indigestion,
phone up gastroenterologist we play golf with .. etc.
So we miss out on the first layer of care.
Is not one of the roles of a GP to bring back a touch of reality and
common sense to situations?

No.
But we are talking about a doctor to assess a doctor's fitness to work
and enabling sick doctors to get rapid appropriate care.
>From the employers point of view, the quicker this care is provided, the
less they lose from absent employees.
Unfortunately by retaining that *quaint idea* of being self-employed, it
ends up being our partners that take the brunt of any sickness abscence,
rather than the great NHS.
